A Dutch passenger from MV Hondius disembarked in Saint Helena on 24 April after her husband died on board on 11 April. She flew to Johannesburg on a KLM flight on 25 April, deteriorated en route, and died at OR Tambo International Airport on 26 April. PCR confirmation by South Africa's National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) on 4 May identified the Andes hantavirus strain. Four Western Cape contacts under monitoring.
